“Michel Majerus: Los Angeles” is the first monograph on Majerus's ‘Los Angeles’ paintings- considered his most forceful in the years before his 2002 death. It is published by Walther König, Köln on the occasion of “Michel Majerus: Pop Reloaded” at Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2003) and Tate, Liverpool (2004).

During a prolonged sojourn in Los Angeles from November 2000 to November 2001, Majerus began work on an ambitious series of over forty large-format paintings which were completed in Berlin the following year.

“Los Angeles’ striking blend of styles, materials and textures makes up a confusing visual landscape, which found its way indirectly into Majerus’s work. The scale of the ‘LA Paintings’ reflects the gigantic billboards lining the freeways as well as referring to the formless scale of the urban conglomerate itself. […] The monumental series of LA Paintings are some of Majerus’s most impressive and complex works. They create a powerful environment in the gallery, and provide a fitting tribute to the artist.” (Tate, 2004)

Majerus was working on the installation for Tate Liverpool when he passed.
