Idea and Image in Recent Art (The Art Institute of Chicago, 1974) - September 1st, 2024

Produced on the occasion of “Idea and Image in Recent Art” (Mar 23–May 5, 1974) at the Art Institute of Chicago. The exhibition accompanied the Art Institute’s Marcel Duchamp retrospective and presented the work of his corollaries. The concept of a corollary show was originally intended to accompany the retrospective when the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York hosted their versions as well, but it never materialized in either city. Recognizing the necessity of illustrating Duchamp's influence on succeeding generations of artists to the public, Anne Rorimer of the Art Institute (Assistant Curator at the time) built the “Idea and Image in Recent Art”  to coincide with the final showing of Duchamp’s retrospective in Chicago. As such, it is arguably the most important exhibition catalog of the period.
